Year 3 General Information - 2025

Clinical Coaching

As you transition into your clinical years, your learning and development will be supported by several different individuals, including your Clinical Portfolio Coach. Your Clinical Portfolio Coach will support you in many of the same ways that your Academic Portfolio Coaches supported you in Years 1 and 2. They will provide you with feedback and support to facilitate the process of exploring strengths and blind spots, as well as enable self-challenge, and focus on goals and goal-setting. They will also help you navigate what is means to be a Year 3 clerk.

At the beginning of the LIC, you will be connected with your clinical coach and remain connected with your coach throughout both Years 3 and 4. All of our clinical coaches are clinicians in your local communities and they will help you:

  •     Navigate your new learning environment
  •     Work with your new health care teams
  •     Plan for your learning
  •     Understand your learner dashboard
  •     Interpret and integrate feedback
  •     Practice professional standards

Meeting Prep

  1. Prior to the meeting: You will review your evidence of learning via your dashboard and perform an informed self-assessment.
  2. Coach: Prior to the meeting: Your coach will review evidence of learning (student dashboard) and the informed self-assessment completed by the student prior to meeting with the student.
  3. Student and Coach (One-on-one meeting): Coach and student will review the dashboard and self-assessment together to discuss variability in learning, challenges with skills development and/or the learning environment. Student and coach will set goals and develop a learning plan.
  4. Coach will help monitor the learning plan by checking in with the student after meetings.
