Learning about Assessment in the LIC
Clerkship education is a big change for students, including in how you are assessed as a MD-to-be. We strongly advise students new to the LIC to begin with the LIC Assessment Rise Module and the LIC Assessment Package. This module will walk you through what is an LIC is, what we are looking for, and why. It also outlines the overall program requirements (versus the requirements by care domain, which you can view via the links below).
Assessment Overview
Most of your assessments will be derived from observations of your skills development in the workplace. You are expected to launch at least one WBA per week and work towards the goals outlined in the Rise Module. Students are also responsible for collecting all clinical assessments (WBAs, CPAs,and PATs), taking written exams, turning in course assignments, and participating in Objective Structured Clinical Exams. The best way to prepare for your written exams is to read about your patients. Asking yourself the question “why” can help you connect clinical knowledge to foundational science. Keeping a list of questions that surface throughout the day will help you both build and consolidate your knowledge.
